Dillian Whyte Breaks Silence Ahead Of Surprise Ring Return Next Week

Dillian Whyte has spoken for the first time since he was passed as clear to fight again and has revealed that he is making a surprise return to the ring next week.

Whyte failed a drug test in the final days leading up to his much-anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua back in August.

It was the to be the third time the British heavyweight rivals met one another having first fought in the amateurs, when Whyte won, and then again in the pro ranks which ended with him being knocked out by an uppercut.

Whyte totally disappeared when the news broke and was not seen of heard from until earlier in the week when it was revealed he had been cleared to fight again after an investigation found that he had taken a contaminated supplement.

Now in an interview with Boxing Scene he has revealed that he is set to return to the ring much sooner than expected on March 17 against Christian Hammer in Ireland on a card at TF Royal Hotel & Theatre in Castlebar.

“I am excited to be back. Especially to have my first fight in Ireland, which has long been a dream of mine. The last time I was in Ireland was to support Carl Frampton when he fought Chris Avalos and there was a brilliant atmosphere in the arena.

The people everywhere were amazingly warm and friendly. I have only had four fights over the last four years and so I need to get active again. Look how well Joseph Parker and Anthony Joshua are doing now with decent activity.”

Whyte is a former WBC interim champion and long-standing No 1 WBC contender who will be hoping to get back to those heights as soon as possible and Joshua for one has said he would be open to a fight one day.
