Dillian Whyte has provided an update on a possible rematch with Anthony Joshua this summer.
Whyte had been tipped to face ‘AJ’ next after his rival came through his comeback against Jermaine Franklin after back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua’s performance underwhelmed most fans, who had been hoping for a statement knockout to announce him back as a title contender again.
Some pre-fight talk had been about a possible summer showdown with long time foe Tyson Fury, but, after the manner of the victory, Eddie Hearn admitted he wanted to see his man in one more fight before challenging the top contenders in the division.
That man was meant to be Whyte, after Hearn revealed he was the favourite for the bout.
Speaking to iFL TV the Brixton heavyweight says there has been ‘no communication’ about the fight.
βI don’t care, listen I’ll fight anyone, I’ve fought him twice already so why wouldn’t I fight him a third time, I want the chance to avenge one of my defeats.
If they want to fight this summer they should really of been talking to me already, there is no communication or nothing going on. These big fights take time to make, there are a lot of things, a lot of ego, finances, all of these things pay a massive part so it takes a long time.β
Joshua himself announced on Instagram that we would not be back in the ring until December, but ‘The Body Snatcher’ believes his rival is simply playing games.
βIt’s a lie. Joshua isn’t’ going to wait until December to fight. He’s definitely going to fight before December, 100%.β
Whyte had also been hoping to line up a fight against Joe Joyce, but his shock defeat to Zhilei Zhang at the weekend makes that now unlikely.
