A former trainer of Dillian Whyte has been asked about what would happen should Zhilei Zhang versus Deontay Wilder be confirmed and he has given a bold prediction in response.
Both of these big-hitting heavyweights have suffered shock defeats recently. Wilder is a fearsome knockout artist who engaged in a thrilling trilogy with Tyson Fury and came out with two losses and a draw.
He then rebuilt with a quick knockout of Robert Helenius before then being beaten on points by Joseph Parker at the end of last year.
Zhang rose to the top of the contender list and earned himself a shot at Joe Joyce in 2023. He ended the first fight with a shock knockout and then repeated the feat even quicker second time round in the rematch.
However, back in March he also faced Parker and also ended up coming out with a points loss over 12 rounds. Now, it has been strongly suggested that Zhang and Wilder could be set toffee one another out in Saudi Arabia in what would be a hugely entertaining battle.
Speaking to Boxing Social, former Whyte coach Mark Tibbs was asked what he made of the fight that could be made on the Matchroom vs Queensbury 5 v 5 event in June.
“I fancy Zhang, in that fight, too big, too natural, too well schooled, Height be old-ish, but he’s too big and too natural. He will have no out against Wilder, Wilder will have to crack him and crack him to break that big tree down and I think Zhang would have too much.”
