Daniel Dubois’ trainer Don Charles has agreed one opponent makes sense for his fighter next following on from theBrit’s stoppage win against Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller.
Dubois’ stock rose even before he stepped through the ropes with a number of heated exchanges against Miller only adding to what many anticipated to be the fight of the night on the impressive ‘Day of Reckoning’ card.
In a physically demanding battle, it was Dubois who did his talking in the ring and came out on top, scoring a technical-knockout win over the previously undefeated American with just seconds to spare in the final round.
The win comes just four months after the 26-year-old’s maiden world title challenge, where he lost to Oleksandr Usyk in a controversial clash that saw the unified champion floored for almost four minutes from a low-blow.
After getting back to his feet, the Ukrainian pushed the pace and handed Dubois a second career defeat with a ninth-round stoppage. In the aftermath, there were questions about his heart and grit – both answered against Miller.
Now it seems that Dubois will continue to take fights at the top level and Don Charles told Pro Boxing Fans that he’d like to see his man regain the WBA Regular heavyweight title, which is now held by Mahmoud Charr.
“I know what I want for him, to be a world champion, in due course.”
“Correct, [we’d like Charr but] Frank Warren is the promoter, so we have to speak to Frank, he is an architect and he will guide us and give us who he believes that we should contest next.”
Charr has been vocal in call-outs of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora, but last fought in December 2022 where he knocked out Nuri Seferi.
He has since been upgraded to WBA Regular champion and will undoubtedly be targeted by many rivals. Dubois previously held the belt with a win over Trevor Bryan, and that was what secured his shot against Usyk.
