Coming off the back of a big win for his own team, Daniel Dubois’ trainer has now cast his eye over the upcoming contest between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou and has called it a ‘physical encounter.’
After many years with Derek Chisora, Don Charles took on working with Daniel Dubois and soon got the young Brit the best result of his career. That came at the end of last year in Saudi Arabia when he knocked out Jarrell Miller. The win means Dubois is well placed to kick on and get back to world level, but first, he has been ordered to fight for the European title.
Meanwhile at the top table, Joshua faces Ngannou following the MMA man’s good showing against Tyson Fury. Charles has spoken to Boxing News about the March 8 fight.
“I expect to see a competitive, physical fight. Two guys there, on the physical aspect, you can’t get better than that match-up. I believe it will be a very physical encounter and obviously, prior to this fight, Ngannou was the unknown when he fought Tyson Fury. I didn’t give him any chance. I couldn’t see how he could fight Fury and be as successful as he was and push Fury to the wried so I have to take that back.”
He then said the evidence of the Fury fight is of great value to Joshua and his team, and he expects them to devise a gameplan that leads to success.
“We know about him now so Joshua and his team, Ben Davison, they’ve got more now to look at and go on, footage to study. Joshua is a heavyweight gold medalist and has incredible boxing ability. His fundamentals are intact … They will devise a game plan to be able to box Ngannou, use that superior boxing ability to have success.”
