Eddie Hearn has told boxing fans who have written off Anthony Joshua to ‘get f***ing ready.’
The former unified world champion turned pro with Hearn following Gold medal success at the 2012 Olympics. He went on to climb to the top of the heavyweight ranks, with a win over long-reigning champ, Wladimir Klitschko, a particular highlight.
Unfortunately for ‘AJ’ he was toppled by another Ukrainian in Oleksandr Usyk. Their two fights in 2021 and 2022 both ended in defeats for the Brit, and he now faces a comeback in the sport at the age of 33.
Hearn threatened the return of his star heavyweight to the DAZN Boxing Show, first listing his achievements until this point.
“Get ready for the return of Anthony Joshua. We live in a mad world. This guy has gone on a run where he’s beaten Charles Martin, Molina, Breazeale, Klitschko, Parker, Povetkin, Takam, Ruiz, Pulev, and fought Usyk twice. With no break. No easy nights.
He comes off the back of one good fight with Usyk and one where he was dominated. He’s fought the pound for pound number one twice. The disrespect on this man’s name is unbelievable.”
The promoter, who signed Joshua up with a career-long deal in 2021, went on to state that his fighter is more driven than ever, and those who write him off are to do so ‘at their peril.’
“People who want to downplay his achievements, people who want to say he’s finished in the sport – get f***ing ready for the return of Anthony Joshua on April the 1st. Cause this guy right now is in Texas, working and grinding every day.
This guy’s got money in the bank, he’s got world championship belts on the wall, he don’t care for either of them – he cares for the sport of boxing. He cares for regaining his world heavyweight titles, and I’m telling you he’s coming back with vengeance.”
“He’s about to make an assault on the world heavyweight title again … write him off at your peril.”
Joshua returns on April 1 against American heavyweight, Jermaine Franklin. An official announcement is expected soon.
