All signs point to a boxing show just two days out from Christmas this year in Saudi Arabia, and it may see Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren working together.
Originally the date pencilled in for a historic undisputed showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, December 23 is now free after both men agreed to push that back until February next year.
Having already hosted Fury versus Francis Ngannou, the boxing businessmen in Riyadh are still keen for one more to see out the year.
“There’s gonna be a big night in December, and we’ll be announcing very soon. It will be massive. You’re gonna love it. I can’t give you all the information at the moment, but everything’s going in the right direction for it to be a historical night in boxing.”
“It’s gonna feature boxers from all over the world. You will be surprised by the names. There’s some great British fighters too.”
Asked by Boxing Social what he knew of the event, rival promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that he has been approached about one or more of his fighters competing.
“I don’t want to say too much because I know I talk to much. As I said, we have been approached regarding that date. It’s six weeks, we’ve got a big international stable of fighters, some of which would be ready to fight on December 23. We’ll see what happens.”
Asked if his star heavyweight attraction, Anthony Joshua, could feature, the promoter remained tight-lipped but was far from ruling it out.
“I think, at this stage, if AJ fights on December 23rd it would be internationally. I think that’s all I’ll say on it.”
With six weeks to go until the proposed fight night, announcements are expected soon. Other names that have been rumoured are those who featured on the Fury-Ngannou card, including Joseph Parker and Martin Bakole.
