Eddie Hearn has given a frank assessment of Jake Paul’s boxing ability, stating that there is “no way” the 26 year old would be capable of winning a British title.
Aside from the obvious reason that Paul is American, Hearn completely shot down the idea that he is could enough to compete with current holder of the Lord Lonsdale light heavyweight belt, Dan Azeez.
The Matchroom boss made the brutally honest comments in a recent interview with IFL TV.
“There’s no way that Jake Paul could win a British title. No way – ever.”
“He’s a light heavyweight. Dan Azeez is the British champion. Do you think that Jake Paul would beat Dan Azeez?
“There is absolutely no way that Jake Paul would beat Dan Azeez. I mean it’s irrelevant as he’s American.”
Paul lost out to Tommy Fury by split decision in Saudi Arabia this past weekend ,a fight in which he was comprehensively outboxed for large spells.
Fans could be in store for a second running of the fight, with ‘The Problem Child’ confirming in various interviews since that he intends to activate the contractual rematch clause.
Although respect was shown between the two young stars in the immediate aftermath of the contest, the back and forth seems to be well underway as well, with Tommy’s father John imploring Paul to pay out on the ‘double or nothing’ bet that was agreed at the press conference.
‘TNT’ has publicly welcomed Paul’s calling for a rematch – hardly a surprise given he netted a reported £2.5 million for Sunday night’s bout.
Fury has been linked to a host of other fights in the influencer space, including with Paul’s brother Logan and UK rapper KSI.
