Eddie Hearn has weighed in on a potential clash between Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr – and Hearn is backing Ruiz to come out on top.
With the fight set to be ordered as a final eliminator for Tyson Fury’s WBC world title, it looks increasingly likely that PBC stablemates Wilder and Ruiz will square off in 2023.
And Hearn told FightHub TV that he believes Ruiz has both the style and the heart to get the better of the ‘Bronze Bomber.’
“Ruiz vs Wilder is a brilliant fight. I really like Andy Ruiz and I thought he looked better against Luis Ortiz, that was a good victory.”
“I see him beating Deontay Wilder. Wilder was good the other night and, although Helenius may have been past his best, Wilder is still very dangerous and he’s brilliant for the sport. But Andy Ruiz is a warrior.”
“He won’t mind standing in front of Wilder; he’s got that low style where he comes in over the top and sometimes Wilder doesn’t like that.”
“I just think it’s a brilliant fight and I hope we get to see it.”
Wilder announced himself back on the scene in spectacular fashion last week with a devastating one round knockout of Robert Helenius, whilst Ruiz looked as if he was close to recapturing his best form with a solid performance against Luis Ortiz last month.
With no promotional or broadcast barriers to overcome, let’s hope the fight can be pencilled in quickly as something for fans to look forward to in early 2023.
