Eddie Hearn is one of the biggest promoters in the world by any measure, and has revealed a fighter he believes helped to put him on the map over a decade ago.
The Matchroom Head is now synonymous with having worked with some of the biggest fighters on the planet, from Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to Devin Haney, Anthony Joshua to Katie Taylor.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting, however, he has admitted that he thinks Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch is the one who helped give him a global platform.
“Did you put me on the map? Yes. I’d like to think I made a good contribution to your career as well. Not to blow your trumpet on your behalf, I could only do so much, but we were a great team together.
I was out there selling the product, which was you, and as it happens the product was a home run with the fans. The standout moments in our career working together – the [Mikkel] Kessler fight at the O2, the Lucien Bute fight, [George] Groves I and Groves II.”
Froch was always a firm fan favourite thanks to his fearlessness in the ring, heavy hands and unwillingness to ever take a backward step.
He signed with Matchroom in 2011 and went on to have the biggest fights of his career with the promotional outfit, including a super middleweight unification loss again Andre Ward, 5th round knockout victory over Lucien Bute to regain his IBF world title, a second fight against Kessler to also pick up the WBA belt and the two famous battles against George Groves.
Froch was recently inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame where he was confronted by the daughter of a legend, and has continued to have bold opinions about current fighters.
