Matchroom Promoter, Eddie Hearn, has predicted a monstrous million pay-per-view buys for an upcoming UK card, coming close to breaking the British record.
Hearn has taken a step back from the ‘influencer boxing’ side of the sport since promoting KSI’s fight with Logan Paul in 2019. However, the ‘Misfits’ train has shown no signs of slowing after announcing a five-year deal with DAZN, the same streaming service that Matchroom is partnered with.
Since first facing Logan Paul, poster boy of Misfits Boxing, KSI, has fought five times on DAZN, defeating Paul, Swarmz, Luis Alcaraz Pineda, FaZe Temper and Joe Fournier, but now faces his toughest task against the undefeated, professional boxer, Tommy Fury.
In an interview with Matchroom Boxing, Hearn looked forward to the all-British affair, which he predicted would come close to Anthony Joshua’s pay-per-view record of 1.15 million buys against Joseph Parker.
“Kalle [Sauerland] and Mams [Taylor] are doing a brilliant job and it’s [Misfits] doing great numbers. That show, KSI and Tommy Fury, will do massive numbers.”
“I think it can do a million buys, I really do. I watch it and I think it’s great, if I was in my twenties I’d be all over it, but I feel like I’ve got a job to do for boxing.”
Fury, who defeated KSI’s long-term rival Jake Paul back in April, has vowed to put an end to ‘influencer boxing’ by defeating the other commercial superstar in the scene, although with the high purses that he would struggle to reach in professional boxing at this time, it will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old dares to end his involvement should he claim victory.
KSI-Fury takes place on October 14 at Manchester Arena, topping a bill that also features Logan Paul against Dillion Danis, and is available to purchase on DAZN pay-per-view.
