Eddie Hearn has backed recent comments that the report into Conor Benn’s failed doping tests has some in the sport worried.
Benn and boxing fans are patiently awaiting a conclusion from the WBC as to their investigation into the banned substance found in the fighter’s system.
With the help of his legal team, he has provided 270 pages of evidence that he believes will clear his name and have him reinstated to the sanctioning body’s world rankings without punishment.
An announcement from the WBC is expected soon, but, in the mean time, people are speculating on what the dossier might say.
Recently, former cruiserweight world champion, Tony Bellew, claimed that the information Benn provided had ‘everyone scared’, and promoter Eddie Hearn has now shared a similar belief to Pro Boxing Fans.
“There’s a lot that’s gone on that is gonna give people sleepless nights. We’re waiting on this decision to come out where he can start making his moves, fight again, and take whatever action he needs to take.
But it’s very frustrating because sometimes we’re being told it’s happening today or it’s tomorrow … it’s out of our control, but it will come soon.”
In a separate interview with ID Boxing, the promoter said there are a lot of things in the report that will ‘worry a lot of people.’
The comments come after Benn sent a message to the British Boxing Board of Control to say that they would be hearing from his lawyers.
The Board are conducting their own investigation independent of the WBC’s, and many fans feel that this is the one that should hold more weight. According to their General Secretary, Robert Smith, though, the fighter hasn’t been forthcoming with information thus far.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Benn is said to be readying a comeback.
