# Eddie Hearn Reacts To ‘Rumblings’ That Tyson Fury Will Retire

Promoter Eddie Hearn says he would not be surprised if Tyson Fury hangs up the gloves following his hard-fought win over Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou – formerly a UFC Heavyweight Champion – entered the ring a massive underdog, with the general consensus pre-fight being that Fury could end it when he so desired.

What transpired was very different. [‘The Gypsy King’ was on the canvas in the third round, and eked out a split decision win.](https://www.tntsports.co.uk/boxing/highlights-tyson-fury-emerges-from-francis-ngannou-scare-with-split-decision-win-in-battle-of-the-baddest-fight_vid2018988/video.shtml) He now moves ahead to an already-signed undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Despite those plans, the promoter told [IFL TV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9u3l5BMej8) he had heard ‘rumblings’ that retirement could be on the cards for the undefeated champion.

> “We know he’s fragile \[in general\], but now we know he’s fragile in the ring. Listen, I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired honestly. I heard Spence Oliver say it, I’ve heard rumblings of it, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

In an interview with Boxing Social, Hearn reiterated the view, saying that the proposed February timeline for the Usyk bout would be tight depending on how the Brit handles his preparation.

> “I would not be surprised if Fury retired and didn’t fight Usyk. When you finish a fight you’re kind of buzzing for a few days and then there will be a slump. So how long does Fury need for that slump? Three, four weeks? February sounds quite tight for me.”

Usyk was keen on a previously floated December 23 date, but Fury’s side have ruled it out.
