Never one to miss an opportunity to stir the pot amongst boxing fans, promoter Eddie Hearn has teased a huge all domestic clash following the cancellation of Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr 2.
Boxxer confirmed that a rematch between the pair, which had already been postponed once, would not be taking place on July 1st, and that the Manchester card would instead be headlined by Franchon Crews-Dezurn vs Savannah Marshall for the undisputed super middleweight title.
In the hours following the news, Hearn took to social media to hint that the previously cancelled clash between Eubank Jr and Conor Benn could now be revisited – posting an image of the face-off with a sand timer emoji.
Originally scheduled for October 8th of last year, the family affair between Benn and Eubank was pulled during fight week after Benn returned a positive VADA test for the banned substance Clomid.
It then became apparent ‘The Destroyer’ had returned a second positive test over the summer, and a whole saga has ensued between he, the British Boxing Board of Control and UKAD which is still yet to reach it’s conclusion.
As of last month, Benn was suspended by UKAD who are currently investigating his case, and news is expected in the coming weeks on whether or not he will have to serve a ban.
Benn has also been linked to a host of other potential opponents, including Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao and former welterweight world champion Kell Brook.
Talk has arisen about a fight with Brook this week, after the pair got involved at some handbags whilst ringside at the 3 Arena for Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron this past weekend.
