Eddie Hearn has named a current fighter who he believes could be unbeatable and, remarkably, it is not one from his stable.
Although Hearn boasts undefeated world champions in his stable such as Sunny Edwards and Katie Taylor, neither of them were who he was describing on this particular occasion.
Speaking to Anthony Crolla on Lightweight Boxing, Hearn was singing the praises of two weight world champion Shakur Stevenson.
“Although Shakur Stevenson hasn’t really beaten anyone at lightweight, and I don’t think he’s the most exciting, but he may well be unbeatable.”
Stevenson announced his arrival to the lightweight division earlier this month with a stoppage victory over Shuichiro Yoshina in his native Newark.
Despite being just 25, Stevenson is already a two weight world champion, having picked up world titles at both featherweight and super featherweight, and will no doubt be looking to add honours at 135lbs to that collection sooner rather than later.
A fight between Stevenson and Gervonta Davis, who stopped Ryan Garcia in the biggest fight of the year thus far on Saturday night, has already been clamoured for by fans online, however there are huge promotional and broadcast barriers that would need to be overcome for this to take place.
More likely for Stevenson is a shot at the winner of Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenko, who do battle for the undisputed lightweight crown in Las Vegas on May 20th.
Like Stevenson, both Haney and Lomachenko are currently signed to Bob Arum’s Top Rank, although Haney’s deal is set to expire following the much anticipated clash next month.
