Eddie Hearn Reveals Shock Twist On 5 v 5 Event With Frank Warren: “We Can Add A Wildcard”

Eddie Hearn has revealed there could be a shock twist in the much anticipated 5 v 5 card having said ‘we can add a wildcard.’

This event is scheduled for June and will see five fights from Hearn’s Matchroom stable go up against five fighters from Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

The announcement regarding which weight categories it will involve is expected any day now, followed by news of the fighters taking part, while Hearn has also teased that a second leg of the event could take place in the UK later in the year.

Atop the card for the first event in Saudi Arabia is the much anticipated light heavyweight unification fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, who has maintained his 100% knockout ratio on route to becoming a unified champion.

Speaking to Boxing Social, Hearn has now added a detail about potential will card choices lining up on the night.

“We’ve filmed the weights, we know the weights. There is a press conference in April in London for the big reveal. But we are able to go out and recruit a fighter if we wish. Nine times out of 10 it will be a fighter we work with but nothing may stop us from going out and adding a wild card.”

He then explained how that might work.

“We’re not talking to Queensbury about the fights, just the weight classes. We know for example if featherweights get picked, we’re putting Ray Ford in.

“And more than likely, because he got robbed of the world title, Nick Ball would be their pick but nothing stops them from signing Ray Vargas and making it a unification so that’s the beauty of the reveal in April, no one will know.”

One exciting fight that potentially opens to door to would be Queensbury’s Anthony Yarde against Boxxer fighter and former Matchroom man Joshua Buatsi.
