Eddie Hearn says that despite speculation Conor Benn will not be fighting Chris Eubank Jr.
Rumours surfaced online that the two British stars were in talks to face one another despite the 13lbs fighting weight that separates them. News of a big fight for welterweight Benn has been teased on social media but Hearn told Boxing Social’s Ayman Khan it will not be against middleweight Eubank Jr.
“That fight is kind of like a fantasy fight, a once in a generation fight.”
“Would we be interested in it? Of course. Is it close? No. It’s not one of the fights we’re closing in on.”
“If the opportunity came out, of course we’d make that fight but we’ve not spoke to Kalle Sauerland (Eubank’s promoter) in depth at it. We’ll see where it goes.”
Hearn went on to reveal the one fight that Benn and his team do want.
“We want the Keith Thurman fight. That’s the fight that Conor Benn wants. That’s the fight that he’d love at 147lbs we’ll see what happens.”
Thurman recently told the Premier Boxing Champions podcast that he hoped to return in October after initially looking at a fight this summer. The former WBA Welterweight champion is positioned either one spot above or below in the top ten rankings across all four governing bodies.
