A fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn was once a fantasy, however, now there seems to be a real possibility that the pair will reignite their father’s rivalry and put it all on the line. Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that this fight is edging closer to being made.
A fight between the two rivals was set to take place in October 2022, but after Benn tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug Clomiphene, the fight was cancelled and ‘The Destroyer’ was suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).
Now two years on, Benn has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP), but he is yet to be given his boxing license back from the BBBofC.
Despite not having a license to fight in the UK, Benn has fought twice in the States, however, both performances were rather underwhelming.
Eubank Jr after avenging his defeat to Liam Smith, has recently knocked out Kamil Szeremeta in Saudi Arabia on the undercard of Beterbiev-Bivol.
After the fight, Benn stormed the ring demanding the pair finally get the fight on, which was comically refereed by footballer Neymar Jr.
Eubank accepted, and most importantly Turki Alalshikh revealed that he would look to put the fight on.
The rumoured February 22nd card could present the perfect opportunity for the pair to finally fight.
Today Eddie Hearn has revealed where they are with this fight.
Speaking on Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel, Hearn said he is “very hopeful” about a deal being done.
”I think if everyone’s sensible, proactive, and just park the egos for a moment, then I think we can get that fight made.”
Hearn has said that he thinks the fight can be made, as long as both teams co-operate well.
A potential fight on February 22nd could potentially be a reason why Daniel Dubois’ return fight has not been announced yet, as Frank Warren confirmed that ‘Triple D’ would return on this date.
