The nature of boxing is such that, even when a long anticipated fight such as Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford is announced and waiting in the wings, fans cannot help but speculate as to what could be next.
After years of wasted negotiations, back and forth playing of the blame game and breaking the hearts of all boxing fans, Spence and Crawford will finally settle their differences and establish who the best 147lber on the planet is on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
However, in a recent interview, Spence teased fans with the possibility of an even bigger fight in the future, when he said he would be open to taking on undisputed super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
“We’re not thinking about Canelo right now, but if the fight comes on the table, I’d definitely take that fight.”
“165-168 is more my natural weight and it would be a lot easier for me to make, so I’d definitely take that fight.”
Spence is a huge welterweight and Canelo is considered small at super middle, so the contest may not seem as unlikely as the difference between the pair in terms of weight classes would initially suggest
However, ‘The Truth’ would be foolish to look past July 29 even for a second, as he has in front of him one of the greatest fighters of the modern era.
The pair have never tasted defeat between them and boast plenty of stoppage victories to boot, so fight fans are surely are in for a night to remember in Las Vegas.
Though bookmakers have Crawford a marginal favourite at the time of writing, the contest could swing either way.
