Errol Spence Jr has not taken kindly to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez tipping Terrence Crawford to beat him this weekend in Las Vegas.
The undisputed title fight between the two undefeated welterweight champions has been a long time coming, but the first bell on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena is now fast approaching.
Opinions and predictions have been flying in from all quarters, including from Mexican multi-weight world champion Canelo, who himself is in camp for an undisputed super welterweight match up with Jermell Charlo on September 30 in Las Vegas.
In a clip shared by Akhi TV, Texan Spence is asked what he thinks about Canelo’s prediction for Crawford.
“He got it wrong, cause he not God. And he backed himself to beat [Dmitry] Bivol and he got his ass whooped.”
Spence has fought all comers in his division from Kell Brook to Shawn Porter, but this is by far the biggest test of his career.
Neither man has been hugely active of late. This will be the first time Spence has been in the ring since April 2022 when he stopped Yordenis Ugas in the 10th round, and before that he had almost 18 months out following his points win over Danny Garcia in December 2020. The year prior he was in a horror car-crash that left his fighting future in doubt.
Crawford has not been in the ring since a sixth round knockout of David Avanesyan in December of last year, which was more than year on from his knockout victory over Shawn Porter in November 2021.
Come Saturday night, all predictions will be proven either right or wrong.
TNT Sports will be showing the fight in the UK and undercard action is expected to get underway from 1AM, with the ring walks for the main event due around 4AM. In the US, the fight is a Showtime PPV event.
