Chris Eubank Jr has a date set against Arthur Abraham on the 15th of July but he has already called out his next opponent.
The IBO champ has stated very clearly that he wants to fight WBO World super middleweight titleholder, George Groves. The newly crowned champion hasn’t made any announcements about his next fight but Eubank Jr is anxious to fight him.
“That is the fight I want. There were discussions. We tried to get a fight on ITV with Groves but he priced himself out of a deal. This was before he had his title though. So the fight didn’t go ahead. Now he’s got his title, he’ll want more. It’s something that’s on my radar, it’s something that’s on my hitlist,” told Eubank in an interview with Boxing News.
Due to multiple sparring sessions together, Eubank Jr believes he has what it takes to beat Groves.
“I sparred countless rounds with Groves at the beginning of my career so I know exactly what he is. He’s a solid fighter. I don’t think he’s the same fighter he was after the Froch fights. I think that took a little piece out of him, took something away from him, but he’s still a very capable fighter,” he said.
Eubank Jr will defend his IBO title against Abraham at The Copper Box Arena in London on July 15th. Should he exit with a win, a fight against Groves could be next.
