Chris Eubank Jr’s whopping purse for his upcoming fight with Liam Smith has been revealed.
Manchester Evening News reported ‘Next Gen’ will earn an estimated £2.4 million for the contest, with around £800,000 of that coming before pay per view bonuses are added.
Smith will not do too badly from this weekend’s work either and is expected to earn around £970,000 total, taking an initial £404,000 before getting his pay per view share.
The numbers cement Eubank Jr’s status as one of the biggest draws in British boxing, and Saturday night’s fight could lead to even more lucrative purses going forward should he be successful.
The fight against Smith has turned into a grudge match, with the press conference on Thursday in particular turning very personal.
The Liverpudlian seemed to question Eubank’s sexuality in front of the media, before Eubank responded by accusing Smith of cheating on his wife.
The pair weighed in on Friday and both came in one lb under the middleweight limit, meaning the last boxes have been ticked and it’s all set to go for fight night.
There is a one way rematch clause in place, meaning Eubank Jr will get another shot at Smith if he is defeated, however ‘Beefy’ knows this will be his only opportunity to topple the hubristic Brighton man.
Big money fights with the likes of Conor Benn, Kell Brook and Billy Joe Saunders could lay in waiting for Eubank Jr should he get his hand raised at the Manchester Arena in a few hours time.
However, he can ill afford to look past Smith, who notched three knockouts in three fights last year and will be confident of scoring a career defining victory over Eubank.
