Chris Eubank Jr says Gennadiy Golovkin remains his number one target and hopes to fight him this year.
The 32-year-old faces Liam Williams on Saturday night in Cardiff, Wales in a fight which Eubank Jr must win, and perhaps look good doing do, if he is to remain in the hunt for marquee bouts.
Speaking to the media on Thursday he also refused to rule out a rematch with his biggest domestic rival.
“GGG is the number one name on my list so we’re going to do everything we can to get him,” he said.
“That’s the plan. That’s been the plan for years.”
Attention then turned to answering a question about taking on Billy Joe Saunders who handed him the first of his two losses in 2014.
“It’s always going to be a fight that interests me, but he doesn’t have a world title,” said Eubank Jr.
“He doesn’t really have anything to offer apart from the grudge match, the beef we’ve had for all these years. Is it a fight I would take? Yes, of course. Is it a fight that’s in the forefront of my mind right now? No. But anything could happen. Maybe the fight could happen this year.”
Eubank Jr is aiming to have a big fight in the summer and winter, but everything falls apart if he doesn’t beat Williams on Saturday night.
“We’ve got to make a statement,” he said. “We’ve got to put ourselves into the minds of the people in the boxing world that this guy needs to fight for a world title.
“It makes me laugh hearing people say it’s a pick em’ fight, it’s a 50-50. It’s not a 50-50. I guess it’s up to me to go out there and prove it.”
