Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke were involved in a fantastic heavyweight battle on Sunday that ended in a draw, and now Wardley has revealed whether there could be a rematch next.
The two men went toe-to-toe in a bloody affair at The O2 Arena on Sunday, with the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles on the line.
It was a back and forth classic, featuring a knockdown, a point deduction and 12 rounds of quality boxing, but in the end the two men couldn’t be separated on the scorecards.
The judges had it 114-113 Wardley, 115-112 Clarke, and 113-113, meaning it ended in a split draw. Many fans have already been demanding a rematch, and whilst speaking to Sky Sports after the fight, Wardley revealed whether he’d give Clarke one.
“I’m proud of myself. Im proud of the heart I showed and the respect I gave the belt. The British belt brings out a lot in people. There was a lot of massive fights for that belt before me, I’m proud I was able to put my own name down and put one fight in the history books for myself.
“When I realised I wasn’t boxing the best I knew I could rely on my heart and being proud of that side of me. That’s what I had to double down on in that fight, I’ll take that for what it was.
“I think he deserves it [the rematch]. I’m a fair man and that was a great fight. He deserves a rematch. There deserves to be a clearer winner. A lot of people have asked for it and I don’t think I’d be happy with my career moving on from that draw or running away from it, so we can run it back there’s no problem.”
The draw means that Wardley and Clarke both remain unbeaten, and fans will be hoping to see them meet again soon, in what could be the latest big rematch in the heavyweight division.
