An unbeaten British fighter has made big changes by leaving his coach of many years and announcing that he has joined up with Adam Booth.
That fighter is Surrey-born Felix Cash, the orthodox middleweight who has won all 16 of his fights by knockout. He has been fighting under the auspices of Matchroom and Eddie Hearn but has not been out since December 2022.
That was a fight against Celso Neves at the First Direct Arena in Leeds which he won on points after eight rounds. He is now scheduled to return to the ring on June 22 at the Resorts World Arena in Brigham when he takes on Tyler Denny for the European middleweight title will be on the line.
Cash spent many years with his previous trainer Tony Sims – famous for also being in the corner of Conor Benn – and has now been working with Adam Booth.
The middleweight contender has been troubled with plenty of personal problems and a hand injury which have kept him out of the ring and seen him move to work with Adam Booth. He has now been speaking about this to Seconds Out.
“A lot of things went wrong at Tony’s gym. Not all of them were Tony’s fault, more on my behalf. I just thought I needed a change. I sat down with Tony and spoke and felt I needed a fresh start to give me a new boost into my career.
“Down there at Brentwood I was away from my family a lot. I moved there for two and a half years I just think I needed a change and to be closer to [my family.]”
He was asked if there was any truth in rumours he almost joined Mark Tibbs.
“I like Mark and get on with Mark, I done a couple of weeks with Mark but I was moving out of Brentwood then moving back, and I broke my hand.
“So I spoke to Adam, Josh Kelly, who I know from GB days, and just decided to move down there. I did a trial with Adam, we got on, and the rest was history really.”
Because of the personal setbacks, Cash has not been able to build on his impressive win in 2021 over Denzel Bentley. His fellow Englishman Tyler Denny won the EBU title against the Italian Matteo Signani in November and Cash will now be hoping to make a statement in this much-anticipated return fight.
