Just when you thought that Floyd Mayweather’s much speculated move to the UFC was just smoke and mirrors, the boxing great has now confirmed that talks have resumed.
According to a recent interview with TMZ, Floyd revealed that he is sharpening his mixed martial arts skills and he will be training with current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
“I’m going to start soon. We have been texting back and forth. We talked a couple of times so we are gonna start working out real soon,” confirmed Mayweather.
Mayweather says that he won’t fight in the summer but potentially towards the end of the year we could see ‘Money’ inside the Octagon.
“You gotta make adjustments,” he said.
“It’s probably gonna be a little difficult but it is what it is. I probably need bit longer [than three months], even if it takes six to eight months. Whatever it takes, we wanna make sure that everything is done correctly and everything is done the right way,” answered Mayweather when asked about training MMA.
He then, somewhat, went into detail about his current skill set in MMA.
“I can wrestle. My wrestling game is not that bad. On a scale of one to ten I’d say it’s probably a seven. And I think we could probably take it up to a nine if possible. Of course, my hand game on a scale of one to ten is a hundred. The kicking game is probably a four. We have to tweak a few things and take things to the next level,” he explained.
Floyd also confirmed that he is ready to accept a fight in the UFC once the numbers are right.
The most obvious opponent for Mayweather would be Conor McGregor but when asked about who could he fight, ‘money’ revealed nothing.
“I can’t over look or knock any MMA guy. Tyron is an unbelievable fighter, tough competitor. Conor McGregor, he is a tough competitor. Hell of a fighter. I really don’t know. We can’t say. I can’t really say. I’m gonna talk to my team, speak with my father and see how it’s gonna play out,” told Floyd.
If and when the UFC puts a good amount of money on the table – it’s go time.
“It’s all about presenting the right numbers and of course they’re going to present the right numbers and we’re gonna make it happen,” Mayweather concluded.
