Generational great Floyd Mayweather has named the man who he thinks is now the face of boxing around the world.
During his long career, Mayweather transcended the sport and earned more money than ever fighter before or since, once he took care of promoting himself after initially being with Top Rank.
His nickname early on was ‘Pretty Boy’ and that changed to ‘Money’ once the big bucks started rolling in. He fought many of the biggest names of his era and never lost in 50 fights before ending with a crossover bout with Conor McGregor that was another easy win.
He held world titles in several weight divisions and was involved in the Fight of the Century with Manny Pacquiao in 2015. There have long been talks of a rematch though once has not as yet materialised.
Now Mayweather has been speaking to The Pivot podcast about who is the face of the sport these days.
I’m not knocking any fighters, this ain’t hating, but they still talk about me. Really, I’m still the face of boxing, even though you have certain individuals that want to throw shots and hate because that comes with the territory.”
He then gave the reason he thinks he is still number one.
“I’m appreciative for guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard. They paved the way for me. But there is only one ‘Money Mayweather’. I beat more world champions than any fighter in history.”
