# Former Heavyweight Champion Vows To Get His Titles Back: “I Won’t Let Them Go This Time”

Former unified heavyweight world champion, Andy Ruiz Jr, has no doubt he will once again sit at the top of the division.

[Ruiz became champion in sensational style back in 2019, knocking out the previously undefeated Anthony Joshua](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/jun/01/anthony-joshua-andy-ruiz-jr-boxing-heavyweight-title-fight) in one of the heavyweight division’s greatest ever upsets. However, just six months later, ‘AJ’ won back his titles after a dominant display in the rematch in Saudi Arabia, where [Ruiz’s poor preparation for the bout proved costly](https://wp.boxing-social.com/news/heavyweight-on-poor-anthony-joshua-fight/).

Despite just two outings since that night in December 2019, [Ruiz told the Make A Move YouTube channel](https://youtu.be/5_Yzyjms0jw?si=b2lMEhnVOjQ_Qr9j) that his aim is to regain his titles and ‘do everything right’ hold onto them this time.

> “I would like to face Usyk, I would like to face Tyson Fury, I would like to face Anthony Joshua, we could do the trilogy.
>
> I would love to fight Tyson Fury in Mexico, at the \[Estadio\] Azteca. Please, Mauricio Sulaimán, give me the opportunity man. Give me the opportunity, I have a big feeling and a big chance that I am going to win \[against\] Tyson Fury. Yeah, he is big, yeah, he is awkward, but so am I! I’m small and fast and awkward too, you better believe that I can win this fight and you better believe that I am going to win it if you give me to opportunity.
>
> God has given me another chance, Jesus Christ is believing in me again. This time, when I do get the crowns and I do become heavyweight champion of the world, you better believe that I am going to do everything right and I am going to stay as the champion, you better believe it.”

Ruiz is currently ranked fifth in the WBC rankings, but [may have already missed his chance to become Fury’s mandatory challenger](https://wp.boxing-social.com/news/wbc-final-decision-on-wilder-ruiz/).
