The planned Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight set for later this year continues to divide opinion within boxing, and now a former sparring partner of ‘The Problem Child’ has weighed in on the bout – claiming that Tyson is a ‘lamb to the slaughter.’
Tyson is set to face Paul on Friday 15th November in what would be the first ever boxing event streamed live on Netflix. They were originally scheduled to meet on July 20, before Tyson had to withdraw from the bout following an ulcer flare up.
Former MMA fighter Anthony Taylor has previously sparred with Paul, and has made the transition to boxing himself, having competed on a number of Misfits events in recent times.
He was set to team up with YouTuber ‘Slim’ to take on KSI in a 2 vs. 1 bout in Dublin later this month, but KSI has been forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering an injury.
With that in mind, Taylor has said that Tyson should do the same in his clash with Paul, otherwise he risks major injury against ‘The Problem Child.’
“Mike Tyson needs to take a leaf out of KSI’s book and pull out of his fight against Jake Paul. I’ve worked with Jake behind the scenes, and trust me, you haven’t seen what he’s capable of.
“Tyson is a lamb to a slaughter. I worry about a concussive ending because Jake is a real fighter now. I’ve known him for five years and he’s developed into a real fighter. When Tyson tires Jake will make Tyson pay.
“Jake’s cardio is next level. Did you ever see Homer Simpson bide his time, soak up a bit of punishment and then knock over his exhausted opponent? Well, Mike’s 58 and he’s going to get tired real quick.”
Taylor also revealed that he feels a fight with KSI won’t ever happen following the postponement, and has stated who he is now targeting instead.
“The KSI fight is now gone forever. I respect his decision, if you’re injured, you’re injured. I know the good people of Misfits are going to find me my next fight. I’m here, ready and waiting for all the smoke.
“I want Slim, Salt Papi, Mayweather, I want all the smoke. I bring eyeballs. Anthony Taylor is the king of influencer boxing and, outside of Jake Paul, I’m the MVP.”
With more and more people within boxing continuing to urge Tyson to not go ahead with the fight, time will tell whether the showdown between ‘Iron Mike’ and Paul will indeed take place as scheduled.
