Frank Warren has added to his growing stable yet again after he announced the signing of a former undisputed world champion.
Just a couple of days ago it was confirmed that Chantelle Cameron had been released by Matchroom Boxing, with an abrupt statement confirming an end to their relationship. Almost instantaneously, Warren and Queensberry Promotions have moved to sign ‘Il Capo’ up, today announcing the signature of the 32-year-old.
Cameron upset the odds to defeat Katie Taylor on away soil last year, winning a majority-decision that many felt should have been scored wider.
In their rematch just six months later, the judges were even less kind to Cameron, awarding a controversial majority-decision win the other way, in favour of the Irishwoman, costing Cameron her undisputed super-lightweight titles.
Much to Cameron’s frustration, Eddie Hearn and Taylor have understandably been reluctant to take on the trilogy contest, with Taylor instead opting to rematch Amanda Serrano at one of the biggest boxing events of the year. As a result, Cameron appeared to fall out with her promoter and left Matchroom Boxing earlier this week.
At today’s Queensberry press conference, it was confirmed that Cameron had teamed up with Hearn’s old enemy Frank Warren, as she prepares for a debut on a new platform and under a new trainer in the coming months.
“I am over the moon and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling and have some big nights and greats memories with Queensberry.
“I’ve had that loss and now it is completely different. I feel like I want to rip everyone’s head off. It is at the point where I took that loss, I know what I am capable of and I won’t let it happen again. Anyone that is in my way, I am coming for them, I am going to get my belts back one way or another.
“If Amanda Serrano is going to be the undisputed champion then I would love the opportunity to face her as well, another great fight.
“Now I’m going to be a completely different animal, different mindset, new trainer – that I feel like is bringing the best out of me as well, I feel like I have made improvements already. I’m just ready to put on a show again and get the number one spot.”
Cameron was not the only signature announced by Queensberry today, as Warren also confirmed the signature of Aadam Hamed – son of the legendary Prince Naseem Hamed.
The 23-year-old debuted on the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois card back in August and scored a first round knockout over Vojtech Hrdy in a super-lightweight bout, but has not been seen since, with the official partnership sure to bring about increased activity.
