Carl Frampton’s bid to become a three-weight world champion against WBO 130lbs king Jamel Herring will be broadcast live on Channel 5 in the UK.
The channel said in a statement on Wednesday: “Channel 5 today confirms that it will broadcast Herring vs Frampton live on Saturday night, April 3, free to air for UK fans. The highly anticipated WBO super-featherweight title fight between Jamel Herring and Carl Frampton will be broadcast on the public service broadcaster, live from The Rotunda at Caesars, Bluewaters, Dubai.
“After much speculation as to a UK broadcaster, Channel 5 confirmed that it will broadcast Herring vs Frampton live from 10pm on Saturday night. Post-fight, time permitting, Channel 5 will show highlights from the undercard including the WBO Intercontinental super-lightweight title fight between Zhankosh Turarov (Kazakhstan) va Tyrone McKenna (Belfast) and a lightweight fight between Keyshawn Davis (USA) vs Richman Ashelley (Ghana).”
Belfast boxing icon Frampton later tweeted: “Absolutely delighted that my fight will be shown to the masses on free-to-air TV. It is where the sport of boxing should be shown, accessible to everyone in the country. Having the potential of millions being able to watch me make history is truly special. Thank you @Channel5Sport.”
