The fallout continues from Francis Ngannou’s shocking knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua and now he has been given some major career advice on his boxing future by a current UFC Champion.
Ngannou went into the Joshua fight off the back of plenty of hype thanks to his better-than-expected showing against Tyson Fury. He managed to knock the WBC champion down and only just lost on points after 10 rounds which gave him plenty of confidence going in to face Joshua.
However, he was knocked down twice in the first two rounds and then conclusively put to sleep by a third huge right hand from Joshua. He must now decide whether he should return to MMA where he was once a heavyweight champion or rebuild in the boxing ring.
As he stews on that, current UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has given him some advice via OLBG.
“Those punches that Francis Ngannou got hit with, it was scary to watch wasn’t it, let’s be honest. It looked like he was going to be asleep for a week, it was ridiculous. They were absolute thunderous punches he got hit with.
“What he’s going to do next is ultimately up to him. If I was in his position, I’d go where the money is – and as far as I’m aware – the money right now is in boxing, so that’s what I’d do. But I’m not Francis Ngannou, so it’s difficult to say. I see that a lot of MMA fighters think it would be easy to switch to boxing.
“We punch, they punch, but it’s not that easy. But it’s not. I’ve done a lot of rounds with high-level professional boxers. These guys have been boxing since they were ten years old.”
Ngannou presented some excuses after his loss which have rather upset the likes of Eddie Hearn.
