The beloved British former world heavyweight champion, Frank Bruno (40-5) speaking exclusively to talkSPORT shared his assertion that ‘boxing needs Fury’ to make a return and furthermore the heavyweight picture becomes all the more intriguing if he is given the green light to embark on a return.
“He says things which wind people up but he is a very, very serious guy and a very good boxer,” Bruno said as he touched on Fury’s controversial personality. Bruno went on to explain despite his personality quirks, the potential clash between Joshua and Fury will make for a very captivating watch “If he can get himself together and get through his problems, it will be a very, very good fight against Anthony Joshua.

“He is a very good and under-estimated boxer. It will be nice for him to come back, he is a character, and boxing needs him. “If him and Anthony Joshua fight, you will need an even bigger stadium than Wembley.” Bruno jokingly suggested of the match which could potentially become the biggest in British boxing history.
There has been movement on that front edging that fight closer to fruition, with the British Boxing Board of Control general secretary, Robert Smith confirmed that, the hold up to reaching a resolution in Tyson Fury’s UK anti-doping hearing is down to Fury and his legal team not confirming a date to recommence, while stressing they want a conclusion to the scenario ‘as much as anyone’.
Bruno also lavished praise on the current standout attraction in the heavyweight division in the form of Anthony Joshua, who stopped Carlos Takam on Saturday night to ensure a third successful defence of his IBF, IBO and WBA (Super) heavyweight title.
“He is a very, very dedicated guy,” Bruno said of his evaluations of Joshua, saying his drive and commitment to his craft will stand him in good stead for the future; “He is very, very focused, very hungry and he deserves to do well” Bruno concluded.
