Frank Warren has revealed the date and location of the long awaited light heavyweight world title clash between Anthony Yarde and Artur Beterbiev.
Warren told IFL TV that Yarde would be getting his long awaited shot at the WBC, IBF and WBO champion in London on January 28th next year.
“Anthony [Yarde] will fight Beterbiev for three world titles on the 28th of January. That’ll be in London”
“He’s not had a fight in nearly 12 months now, so he needs to get some ring rust out of his system.”
Yarde, who is mandatory challenger for Beterbiev’s WBO title, was originally hoping to get his shot at the unified champion in late October. However, the fight had to be pushed back due to an unspecified injury suffered by the Russian.
The Brit was ringside when Beterbiev destroyed Joe Smith Jr inside two rounds to add the WBO belt to his WBC and IBF titles, cementing himself as the consensus number one 175lber on the planet.
A fight with ‘King Artur’ will represent Yarde’s second chance to capture world honours, after he fell short against Beterbiev’s countryman Sergey Kovalev back in 2019.
To say Yarde faces a stiff test in Beterbiev would be an understatement. The 37-year-old possesses a devastating blend of skill and power, and is the only world champion in the sport with a 100% knockout ratio, stopping all 17 of his opponents to date.
Yarde will take confidence his recent stoppage victory in his rematch with Lyndon Arthur, but he stands with a true colossus in front of him on January 28th. It’s expected that Yarde will have a tune-up fight in November on a fight night headlined by Daniel Dubois.
