Despite so much talk earlier in the year, negotiations for Anthony Joshua to fight Deontay Wilder seem to have stalled but Frank Warren has now stepped in and suggested a potential replacement opponent for ‘AJ.’
Joshua is looking to get back to the top of the world heavyweight tree following a pair of setback losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022.
Since then he has returned cautiously against first Jermaine Franklyn in April and then against Robert Helenius in August. Many fans and pundits said he didn’t look particularly convincing in either fight and now Warren is asking him to test his mettle.
Speaking to IFL TV, Warren put his own man into the frame.
“I’ll tell you what would be a good fight if that one doesn’t happen, a good fight in the UK, a fight people would buy tickets to see and see who is the biggest puncher and who has the biggest heart, him and Daniel Dubois.”
Warren said he thinks it would be a sell-out.
“Who’s got the biggest heart? Who’s gunna grit their teeth? You can’t say it wouldn’t sell. It would sell. It’s a big fight.’
First however, he agreed they must resolve the situation Dubois has regarding his appeal with the WBA about the result of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
It sure would be an interesting match up but Joshua is likely to want a fight that gets him back in world title contention sooner rather than later.
As for Dubois, at still only 26, he has time on his side to rebuild and get himself back challenging at the top of the division.
