Anthony Yarde recently suggested that he was now a promotional free agent, but Queensberry’s Frank Warren has now issued a defiant response to that statement.
Yarde is hunting down a huge all-British light heavyweight fight with rival Joshua Buatsi and one stumbling block so far has been that he fights with Queensberry, and Yarde is with BOXXER on Sky Sports.
However, a post by Yarde’s trainer Tunde Ajayi claimed that Yarde has now been freed up so is more able to negotiate this fight having twice challenged for world honours with Warren by taking on both Sergey Kovalev and Artur Beterbiev.
Yarde fell short and was knocked out in both fights, he put up good showings and his stick rose in defeat. Speaking on BoxNation, Warren expressed his dismay at Yarde’s recent talk.
“Our position is very simple. We have a contact with him which is still in force.”
He was asked in that case why Yarde had said what he had said.
“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask him I have no idea. But he has contractual obligations to us. I haven’t spoken to Tunde, I spoke to his lawyer, and Anthony I had an exchange with him last week, that’s it really. I don’t understand this but it is where it’s at. We always defend our contractual decisions.”
He was then asked if the relationship had broken down.
“I hope not, it’s very disappointing, I don’t think anybody could have supported him any more than we have. I don’t know why we’re in this position.”
