Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has it responded to the criticism from Peter Fury over the corner work during the recent undisputed fight between ‘The Gypsy King’ and Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury’s uncle and former trainer Peter didn’t have too many kind words about what went on in the corner out in Saudi Arabia during this historic four-belt battle earlier this month, including some harsh words for Tyson’s father John.
Fury lost his WBC and lineal titles against Usyk despite dominating the first half of the fight. Usyk dropped his rival in the ninth round as he turned the bout on its head and then Fury seemed to stay on the back foot for the last few rounds rather than going out to win them, which is what cost him the fight on the scorecard at the conclusion of the 12th round.
Footage from the corner during those championship rounds showed John and the team telling their man he was in front and didn’t need to seek a stoppage.
Speaking to Boxing News, Frank Warren has now responded to those claims made by Peter.
“Look, you know what, I don’t read a lot of this stuff online cause there is some genuine people on there and there is some idiots on there or people I don’t care about cause they’re idiots.
“The bottom line is fight is over, all you can do is look back and say what should I have done different, what am I going to do differently than I did last time. That’s what sensible and smart people do. You adjust your tacts and other things if you need to do them that’s what you do.
“Enough has been said about what happened outside the ring. What happened inside the ring is that I saw Tyson was capable of winning the fight and what I also saw was that Usyk was also capable of winning the fight and he got the decision at the end of a very close fight.
“The onus now is on Tyson to change what happened last time and win the fight. I believe he is capable of sound he has the skill set to do it, and the intelligence to win the fight. There were stages were he was quite dominant and he was hurting Usyk with the super jab and this uppercuts but there weren’t enough of it. They will now both prepare for the rematch and we’ll see what it’s taken out of them.”
Whoever might be in the corner for Fury fights going forward will have a chance to redeem themselves on December 21st, which is when the rematch between the two elite heavyweights is due to take place.
