The full undercard for the much-anticipated fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk has drawn criticism from some quarters but Queensbury CEO Frank Warren has brutal words of response for any detractors.
The historic undisputed fight between Fury and Usyk is set to take place on May 18 after being delayed from February 17 following a cut sustained by Fury late in camp.
It will be the first time all four heavyweight belts have been on the line in one fight for some 25 years since Lennox Lewis was the last undisputed champion of the banner division.
The fight takes place in Saudi Arabia and the undercard features Jai Opetaia facing Mairis Briedis for the vacant IBF cruiserweight title, Joe Cordina defending his IBF super-featherweight title vs Anthony Cacace, plus Agit Kabeyel against Frank Sanchez.
Speaking to BoxNation, Warren had no time for criticism of the undercard.
It’s a great card. A number of fights on there could be top of the bill. The main event is the biggest fight this century. It’s cost a fortune to get those guys in the ring and make it happen.
“The rest of it is a massive massive bonus. Every other fight on there is a good fight, good British fights as well, Cordina versus Cacace. There are some exciting fights there all the way through.
“I’ve seen lots of comments about it and 99% of them agree it’s a bloody good undercard for the show. To everybody else, get a life for god’s sake, what a load of miserable b**tards. I don’t care what anybody says. It’s a great, great show.”
Other fights on the card include Sergey Kovalev against Robin Safar, Mark Chamberlain versus Joshua Wahem, Moses Itauma versus Ilja Mezecev, plus more.
