Frank Warren has provided an update regarding his fighter, Tyson Fury, putting the WBC Heavyweight Title on the line against Anthony Joshua on December 3.
There was a pause in public negotiations out of respect for the Royal Family when the Queen passed away, but behind closed doors things seem to have been moving forward.
Today, the promoter who’s putting it altogether caught up with TalkSPORT. Warren, who has been at the helm of ‘The Gypsy King’s sensational comeback to the top of the sport, didn’t want to say too much, but what he did say was certainly positive.
“I’m not going to be going into great detail about this because we saw that happen last time round, where people were making and so forth, and it all fell apart – and this fight won’t be on until it’s signed.”
“Everybody wants it to happen, there aren’t any obstacles in the way, so hopefully very quickly we can get it over the line – but until it’s signed it’s not on.”
As for where in the process things currently sit, Warren said that the fight contract is with the lawyers of both teams and broadcasters are now in discussion.
“Lawyers are going to sign it, there’s broadcasters involved – there are a lot of facets to this to get it over the line – but everybody involved wants it to happen … They’ve accepted a great offer. The basis of the deal, probably 90% of what counts in the deal is all is okay, and the other 10% we’ve just got to sort out.”
90% may be a done deal in most businesses, but we’ve seen that boxing can be a different story. As many fighters and fans say, we’ll know the fight is on when Fury and Joshua step in the ring – but that does seem to be edging closer by the day.
