Legendary trainer Freddie Roach has weighed in with a prediction for the fast approaching undisputed welterweight world title fight between Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford.
Roach is widely regarded as one of the best trainers of all time, and has worked with the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and James Toney during his thirty plus years in the corner.
It would take a brave man to therefore disagree with Roach’s expert opinion, and he explained to FightHype why he was backing Crawford to get the job done on July 29th.
“I have Crawford.
He goes out there with his game plan, he might turn southpaw in the first or second round. But he carries through. I like him a lot, I think he’s one of the best fighters in the world today.
I think he’s more thoughtful, he sets up the counter punch really well. His opponent is obviously there and aggressive, but Spence has had a rough life over the past year or so.”
The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will play host to the four belt unification, and is almost guaranteed to be a sell out.
A two way rematch clause is included in the fight contract, meaning there is every chance fans will see Spence and Crawford do it all over again.
Both are regarded as top 5 pound for pound fighters, and the victor will have laid a huge claim to being the best fighter in the sport, with some already giving that accolade to ‘Bud.’
