Deontay Wilder has been back in the news this week but Carl Froch has dismissed his return saying that the American heavyweight is ‘not a killer anymore.’
Wilder was once one of the most fearsome men on the planet. He had a huge knockout ratio and the power to stop any man with just one punch. He did that many times in his career including against the likes of Luis Ortiz, Bermane Stiverne and Robert Helenius.
He had a thrilling up-and-down trilogy with Tyson Fury that saw him lose two and draw one of the contests and then had just one round of fighting in two years before coming back against Joseph Parker in December.
Parker ran out a clear points winner with Wilder doing little but moving backwards out of trouble. He has since come out with bizarre excuses but claimed he is ready to fight anyone once more, and Parker himself has responded to Wilder’s latest comments.
Froch has now responded to that on talkSport.
“I feel like Wilder is done. He did that ayahuasca ceremony which makes your body release DMT, once you’ve done that, you’re a different person. You have a spiritual awakening, You’re not a killer anymore. He’s at peace.”
He then spoke of Wilder’s below-par showing against Parker.
“That killer instinct was gone. If he doesn’t get that back he’s in trouble, his legs looked skinny, and he doesn’t look like a fighter anymore. Maybe those three fights with Fury dragged that out of him. You leave a bit of yourself in there each time you fight.”
Only time will tell whether Wilder will get back to his explosive punching best.
