Recently Tyson Fury somewhat formally announced that he was no longer coached by his longtime trainer Peter Fury. In an interview with IFL.tv, Fury explained that things had become ‘stale’ in the gym with his uncle.
“Peter’s me uncle and I’d do anything for him. We worked together well. But a change is as good as anything else. I think we were going a bit stale in the gym – going over the same things year in year out. A bit of a change doesn’t do anybody any harm. Peter’s still working with Hughie and whoever else in the gym. We’re still talking – we have not fell out. It’s just I’m going to branch off a little bit,” told Fury.
The former World heavyweight champion is now being trained by Ben Davison as many have noticed in Fury’s recent social media posts.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Davison explained how his relationship with Fury initially got started because of a common target.
Anthony Joshua.
“That was one of the things. When me and Tyson had a chat, he wanted to see my pattern of thinking. I wanted to see his. We both know what needs to be done to beat the other so-called top heavyweight out there,” said Davison.
When Fury first asked Davison to replace uncle Peter, the young trainer was hesitant because of all the wins and titles Tyson and Peter had achieved together. But in the end, Tyson wanted a new coach and Davison was his top choice.
“Billy Joe wanted to bring Tyson over to Marbella to give him some structure. Tyson asked me, at the time, if I’d train him for his comeback. I told him to take his time [with a decision] because he had a lot of success with his uncle Peter. Tyson was adamant this was the decision he wanted, and I could see he was hungry for it.
I'm on track for my return takeover,
2018/2019 will be busy years for me,
Expect 4/5 fights in 2018 then I'll be match fit again & still on top of world 🌎 🙏🏻👍🏻— TYSON FURY (@Tyson_Fury) December 19, 2017
“We gelled straight away. He felt like it was what he wanted. We’re the same age so we have a laugh but business is business. When it’s time to work, we work.
Despite Fury being one of the big names in the division, Davison has a big task ahead of him. He needs make sure Fury comes back stronger, fitter and better since the boxing world is expecting nothing less from the current Ring Magazine lineal champion.
The coach also told his ideal date for Fury’s return.
“We have a rough date, April or May, and a full training camp will commence very soon. He has to make weight, look good, feel good, be fit and strong, be mentally prepared – it is an all-round package and that is what a training camp will bring,” told Davison.
Fury’s list opponents for 2018 include Anthony Joshua, Tony Bellew, and potentially Shannon Briggs. Apart from the obvious tune-up fights, Fury will face tough challenges and match ups but Davison is not worried. Whoever the opponent, Fury can find a way to beat him according to the coach.
“We all know what Tyson can do. But I thought: ‘can he do this?’ He might have to do different things against different opponents. Tyson can do it all.
“He can fight orthodox, he can box orthodox, he can fight southpaw, he can box southpaw. He can box off the back foot, he can box coming forward. He can counter-punch. He has genuinely got it all,” he explained.
It's the fight everyone wants to see…
But it's not the only fight on @tyson_fury's mind at the moment.
Do you agree with his prediction on AJ v Wilder? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/enOYcpXcTX
