Tyson Fury has hinted at his possible training setup ahead of a potential fight with Anthony Joshua.
The WBC heavyweight champion called out his fellow Brit to a showdown before the end of the year after it was revealed that his proposed clash against Oleksandr Usyk would be put on the back burner until next year.
Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) stated his desire recently to continue in the sport, calling out the Ukrainian stylist to an all-the-marbles confrontation in the sport’s premier division.
But Usyk, who beat Joshua in their rematch at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia last month, is still nursing slight injuries and wanted to wait until 2023 to put his WBA Super, IBO, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine titles at stake against ‘The Gypsy King’.
With that, Fury has now asked ‘AJ’ whether he fancies throwing down before the end of the year, offering his British rival 60-40 in terms of purse percentages for a clash before the end of the year. Fury still has a fight with Usyk on the brain though. He spoke about the potential showdown with Usyk to Seconds Out:
“Every weapon that I have beats Usyk. There is no heavyweight in the world that has got more speed than me or is more agile than me.
“I’m 220 [pounds] and he is a heavyweight. If he drops down to 195 or 198, he may have the agile speed over me, but the sheer size and mass of destruction will wear him down. It will be like him having a double-decker fridge-freezer on top of him, pushing him around the ring for four or five rounds.”
One of the questions surrounding Fury’s ring return was if his trainer, SugarHill Steward, would still be in his corner. Steward had, it seemed, been jettisoned by Fury in favour of featherweight fighter Isaac Lowe being brought in.
This was taken by some as an announcement in jest, and it seems the Kronk trainer is back in the fold and even has a bet with the world champion about a fight against the former undisputed cruiserweight king.
Fury continued:
“SugarHill & I are convinced that if it goes six rounds, then that’s a sh*t performance.
“I’ll cut him down inside six, for sure, and Sugar reckons I’ll cut him down inside four and we’ve actually got a bet on about which one gets done first.”
