Bob Arum has revealed that he has already been in touch with representatives of Oleksandr Usyk about a possible fight against Tyson Fury.
The Ukrainian defends his three heavyweight titles on August 20 in Jeddah against Anthony Joshua.
A win for Usyk will give him back-to-back wins against the Brit but will still see him one title away from becoming undisputed champion. Fighting Tyson Fury would give him that opportunity.
The WBC title holder’s co-promoter Bob Arum is already making moves to ensure that another heavyweight super fight takes place soon.
The Top Rank CEO was a guest on Barbershop Conversations and was asked what was next for the ‘Gypsy King’.
“I’ll let you know in a few weeks when the Usyk-Joshua fight takes place.”
“I’m hoping that Usyk wins because I’ve talked with his people, and I think they would be anxious to fight Tyson Fury and I would hope to do that fight in December maybe or early next year.”
Joshua goes into his 12th heavyweight title fight as an underdog but has brought in one of America’s top trainers, Robert Garcia, to provide him with the right game plan to beat Usyk.
While Arum has great respect for Garcia, he isn’t convinced that ‘AJ’ will become a three-time heavyweight champion.
“Robert Garcia is an excellent trainer. He trains a lot of our fighters. We have great respect for him. Whether he is able to train a big heavyweight, I just don’t know. As far as being a competent trainer he’s one of the best.”
“I don’t think he can turn Joshua into what Joshua isn’t. I just think Usyk is a much better fighter, much smarter fighter and I can’t see how Joshua can beat him, but heavyweights are heavyweights.”
