Hopes of Californian star Ryan Garcia fighting East Coast rival Gervonta Davis are rising after the duo traded barbs on Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’ Podcast.
Fresh from his breakout seventh round KO of Luke Campbell last weekend, Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) was a guest on former heavyweight champion Tyson’s popular show when Davis was introduced via a Facetime call.
‘Tank’ immediately lit the flames by suggesting Garcia can’t take a shot, having been floored in the second by Campbell before an impressive left hand to the liver area secured victory five rounds later.
“Mike, he got dropped by a guy that can’t even hit,” claimed Davis (24-0, 23 KOs), swiftly drawing the conversation into a verbal altercation.
“Go ahead and hit me with that shot. Look at him… you gonna need a StairMaster, boy!” retaliated Garcia, referencing the five-inch height advantage he would enjoy over Davis.
Tank fired back with gusto. “Mike, Mike! If I would’ve hit him, you know I would’ve killed him after that,” insisted the WBA Regular champion at 135lbs.
“Keyword, keyword: would’ve… if. If you would’ve,” countered García.
Davis was having none of it. “I’m gonna fight him next,” said the Floyd Mayweather promoted fighter. “I’m gonna fight him next.”
WBC interim champion Garcia is supposed to fight the organisation’s full champion Devin Haney next, but that option can be delayed if a high profile clash with Baltimore’s Davis presents itself. Haney would then face the next challenger in line, Dominican Javier Fortuna.
