Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero has fought Gervonta Davis and sparred Ryan Garcia – and there’s no doubt in his mind who hits harder.
The 14-1 lightweight has 12 KOs, and his first loss came in May of 2022 at the hands of ‘Tank.’ After a spicy build up with plenty of bad blood, ‘Rolly’ took Davis to the halfway stage of their fight before a big left hand off the ropes knocked him down.
He managed to stand towards the end of the count, but the referee waved it off after it was clear he was unsteady legs. It was ‘Tank’s 25th knockout victory – he has since added a 26th over Hector Luis Garcia.
Despite being laid flat out by the Baltimore fighter, Romero still says that ‘Tank’s rival and future opponent, Ryan Garcia, hits harder. He spoke to FightHype.com.
“Ryan Garcia punches harder than Tank. Yeah [even with sparring gloves.] Tank caught me with a lucky shot. My body was dehydrated and depleted – I couldn’t make 135 anymore, everybody f***ing knew that. I asked for the fight at 140 a year prior to the damn fight. I took the opportunity to become great.
Despite having only sparred Garcia – therefore having bigger and less damaging gloves on – Romero is confident he hits harder. He has 19 knockouts from 23 wins and, like ‘Tank’, is undefeated.
It may not be long for fans to find out if ‘Rolly’s prediction is correct given that all signs still point to an April 15 136lb catchweight bout in Las Vegas for the pair of young stars.
With contracts reportedly at the signing stage and all interim fights out of the way, fans eagerly await confirmation on what would be one of the biggest fights of the year.
