Super-lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia has issued a warning to Gervonta Davis and revealed that he is in hot pursuit of vengeance after Davis ‘did him dirty’ in their pre-fight negotiations before handing Garcia a first career defeat.
Davis knocked out ‘King Ry’ in the seventh-round in one of 2023’s most memorable pay-per-view clashes, although Garcia and his fans have maintained that he was at a severe disadvantage when he headed into the ring, after being limited by a rehydration clause.
In an interview on the PBD Podcast, Garcia outlined his intentions to avenge the lone blemish on his résumé but maintained that he wishes to do so in the fairest way possible.
“I knew in the back room [that I was going to lose], nothing was going right, ‘I’m so weak, my punches aren’t coming off sharp, I am going to lose this fight’. I just said ‘how am I going to lose this fight? This is going to be crazy’. I said that to myself.”
“I will never let anybody play with me like that in the negotiations ever again, that will never happen. Ever. I am going to beat this guy, this guy and this guy and I am going to get so big that Gervonta has to fight me [again].”
Garcia went on to reveal what would be different if the fight was to happen again.
“I am going to be a fair and honest man in the new negotiations and we are going to do it right, and I am going to beat him. Then we are going to solidify that and it is going to be all good. That is what is going to happen, mark my words.
“Even though he did me dirty and they did all of these tricks, I am going to do everything fair, no rehydration clauses.”
Garcia has already bounded back from the defeat with a win over Oscar Duarte in December, although the 25-year-old has struggled to secure another bout in the aftermath.
