George Groves Promises A Knockout – “I Am Going To Ice Him”

The back and forth between George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr continues as ‘The Saint’ takes the latest dig at the IBO World super middleweight champion.

WBA champion Groves and Eubank Jr will put their titles on the line when they face off on February 17th in Manchester at the semi-final stage of the World Boxing Super Series tournament. The stakes are high and the rivalry is getting more intense.

Groves is well aware it’s not just Eubank Jr he has to go up against leading up to the fight – Christopher Eubank Sr also has a part in this. The British boxing legend is confident his son will prevail simply because of genetics.

“When you talk about genetics, sure I know his dad boxed but that was well before my time and there’s no reason to get the laptop out and watch Senior against some little known Belgian or other fighter,” said Groves in an interview with ESPN.

But Groves is not really impressed with what Senior is bringing to the table verbally.

“I bumped into Senior when the draw was made for the Super Series and I thought he would come better prepared with something to say other than his son is genetically gifted at boxing because of what he achieved,” told Groves.

The WBA World super middleweight champion has experienced big losses and bad performances in his career but with his recent win streak of six fights, the Londoner feels he is ‘unstoppable’ at this point of his career.

“I think that lately I am unstoppable. My distance control is fantastic, my reach is spot on, my jab is a lot faster than his.

“These are all things that will cause Junior nightmares and because of that, I believe it will be a comfortable fight. Once I find my range, once I kick in, there will be a lot of posturing from him a lot of holding from him but I am going to ice him. I believe he will be out cold,” he said.

Groves and Eubank will put their WBA and IBO titles on the line at the Manchester Arena on February 17th. The winner will advance to the WBSS super middleweight tournament final and compete for the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
