George Groves proved out to be the sharper boxer against Jamie Cox and managed to get a strong stoppage win against his challenger.
For Groves, his fourth round KO victory means he will advance to the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series tournament and face Chris Eubank Jr next.
The fight is an anticipated clash between the best two super middleweights in Britain. ‘The Saint’ already started the verbal jabbing at the post-fight press conference on Saturday night.
“Eubank to his credit is a performer first, fighter second. He is always aware of how he’s being perceived. He was desperate to fight me because he knows fighting me makes it a big fight. He craves for fame, I’m here to fight,” stated Groves during the press conference.
The WBA World super middleweight champion is confident that he’ll eliminate Eubank Jr from the tournament with ease.
“He’s gonna have to be clever and cute with me. He obviously knows that. What he craves most is a high profile fight. Which he knows he’s gonna get with me. He’s happy about it, but at the same time, he hasn’t boxed anyone as good as me. I know I’m capable of winning and winning well against Chris Eubank Jr,” told Groves exclusively to Boxing Social.
According to promoter Kalle Sauerland, the fight between Groves and Eubank Jr will happen in January or February at an outdoor venue in London.
