Celebrity sportsmen are familiar with wowing their fans when they meet in-person. On fewer but definite occasions, however, celebrities wow each other with their unique aura, especially after months of upgrading. The latter scenario occurred during a podcast between Canadian former MMA fighter George St-Pierre (GSP) and USA Today’s Mike Bohn. GSP opened up on a recent in-person meeting with Brazilian light heavyweight fighter Alex Pereira, and had superlative words to share.
Pereira stands tall in UFC history for multiple reasons. He is the quickest to titles in two weight classes after seven fights, the first to win titles at MW and LHW. Per his nationality, he’s the second Brazilian fighter to win titles in two divisions after Amanda Nunes. Currently, the former two-time UFC light heavyweight champion and former UFC middleweight champion is ranked #2 in his weight class. Beyond his in-game heroics, Pereira is also charming fans with his remarkable physique.
What GSP thought after his first meeting with Alex Pereira
GSP, who has frequently praised Alex Pereira’s artistry alongside the game’s greats, found something striking about the Brazilian’s latest weight.
“I don’t know how he’s doing this, this is unbelievable. He’s so big. He was sitting next to me. I don’t know how he got so big.”
Pereira’s weight has become the talk of the town after he made his UFC debut in November 2021. That’s because he used to cut down to 185 Ibs to fight at middleweight. This February, the 38-year-old stunned fans by tipping the scales at a massive 242.5 Ibs. It’s therefore unsurprising that GSP had this reaction after seeing him first-hand.
Alex Pereira is set to stir even more headlines at UFC White House on June 14 when he fights Ciryl Gane. Should he defeat Gane at the event, the Brazilian will become the first-ever fighter to win gold across three UFC titles.
